Day 16 - Hawaii

Today was an amazing day - a real answer to prayer. We headed back up the canyon to the wettest place on earth. We went there 10 days ago and were unable to film as it was fogged in and raining.
The locals say that the sun shine up there only 3 days of the year, the rest of the time it is raining or foggy.
Well today must have been one of the 3 days cause it was beautiful! The Lord really did hold back the rain and fog - numerous times we watched as it scooted around us and there was just a whole of blue sky above us - just amazing. God is good.
The picture above is taken from where we filmed - the view was amazing. Apparently they film quite a few movies down there on that beach. You can only get to it by boat, helicopter or walking.

Kandys resting in the double bass case.

The line up for the loo - (restroom) - during a filming break.

You can see the fog rolling in behind us this afternoon.

Tomorrow is a rec day (no filming). We only have 3 songs left to film and we are waiting for a student to arrive who is singing a solo in one of the songs. So they are giving the students the day off tomorrow - which they are all very excited about.

Day 15 - Hawaii

Today we filming in the gardens we filmed at last week. They are beautiful gardens filled with lots of trees and flowers. The Lord kept the rain away again and we were able to film 4 songs again today - yea ha. This means we are now 2 songs ahead of schedule.

Unfortunately, I was so busy running around making sure the students had sun screen on that I forgot to put it on myself! I am rather burnt on my arms (I did put it on my face luckily). I am very grateful for the 'Aftersun' lotion Mom sent back with Alistair - I have been slathering it on - Thanks Mom.

The quartet recorded their song today set amongst the bush and the mosquitoes!

Joel, Esra, Randy & Kyle

Katie and Tamzin decided to swap instruments - Tamzin has always wanted to learn to play the flute.

Jordan must have been up to late talking on the phone! Having a wee 'cat nap'.

Tomorrow we are heading back up the canyon to the wetest place on earth, and where we got rained off last time we were there and weren't able to film. So please pray that the rain stays away tomorrow and the clouds be rolled back like a scroll and the sun shines down.

Today was another filming day. It was at a garden location, it was very nice. Lovely peacocks roaming amongst the palm trees.
We managed to film 4 songs today and still be home by 6pm, which was great.

Random Photos from Hawaii

Here are some photos from the last few days. It has been busy as ever lately, hence I haven't had much time to update this.
Above are our hero's - they keep our porta-loo's in tip top shape. Not a job I would like at all.

Kyle seranading the people in the toilet!

Randy and Morgan got quite wet doing this song - it was spectacular.

This cello arrived broken - bit sad really.

Kyle getting his make up applied to cover the sun burn. Bristi was kept busy covering up red noses.

Day 9 - Hawaii

Today was a great day - Alistair arrived!
It is great to have our wee family together again.
We are itching to get into all the goodies he bought with him, but we haven't had time to open the presents - sad really, maybe tonight. Tamzin has found Nan's cookies though........

We filmed in a amazing location - on the rocks at the beach.
The waves were massive, we had to move the kids from where we had set them up as it was a bit dangerous - better to be safe then sorry.
I will try and upload photos soon.
Am on the run again so can't write much.

We were up very late again last night washing ALL the uniforms, it was approx 700 pieces of clothing!! It is a big job. I didn't have to do the ironing this time - Scott (our president) ironed all the skirt hems - Jordan did a couple.

Day 8 - Hawaii

I am amazed at the beautiful places this island has to offer - and the diversity of them. Today we went to another private garden - this one had water falls and bubble brooks all over it - it was lovely.

We managed to film 4 songs again, which was great. The rain stayed away again too. It was really hot when the sun was shining (which was most of the day). I got out the umbrella's again to try and shade the kids in between takes.

I am getting very grumpy with the internet here - it won't let me upload photos onto the blog. I will keep trying.................. oh I got it to upload some.

Kyle's foot is still not right, it is a bit swollen. He hobbled around the place today - but didn't do too much complaining.

Alistair arrives tomorrow, which I am very happy about. We are all looking forward to seeing him (including the students it seems).

Day 5,6,7 - Hawaii

Well I am sorry for the delay in updates - the internet has not been cooperating with me. Won't let me upload quite a few of the photos I want to put on here - very frustrating! So I decided to update it without the photos.

Sabbath was a relaxing day - the kids had the option to go to church or to go out in nature. The van I am driving went out in nature - we went and saw this waterfall. It was lovely. Then we went and sat under a tree at the beach. I was a nice relaxing day.

We had to be back by 3pm so we could load up and head out to the concert they were doing. It was an outdoor concert - sort of, they set up on the verandah or an old sugar can plantation homestead (which is now a venue place) and the people sat out on the lawn. It was rather nice.

Sunday was a recreation day, so my van load went shopping in the morning, then hit the beach for the afternoon. They went swimming and boggy boarding. It appeared that all had a fun day.

After supper I went and helped them wash the uniforms at the laundry matt. That was quite the job, but some students came too which made it much faster. It has been a real challenge to get the red dirt stains out of the uniforms - specially since they were white!
The hems on the girls browns skirts all 'rolled' up after they had been through the dryer. So I was up till 1am ironing them flat - well at least trying to get them flat.

Morning came all too fast and we were off filming again - we actually got 4 songs done, which is a huge blessing. As soon as we finished and had put the last of the equipment in the truck, the heavens opened up and the rain poured down - God is good that he kept it away until we were done!
Todays filming was in some private gardens. They have 8 acres of fantastic gardens. I think we are filming there again next week -which will be nice.

Tonight Kyle jumped over a ditch and seems to have sprained his ankle - he it finding it difficult to walk. His ankle has swollen, so I am praying it will come right quickly, as he does a lot of standing during the filming. We will have to see how it is tomorrow.

Well I am very upset that all the photos I try and upload don't appear on the blog. Not sure what the problem is - I will keep trying.

My eye lids are very heavy and I know that morning will come all to soon, so I best be off to get some beauty sleep. .........................

Day 4 - Hawaii

What an amazing view from todays filming location!

Today was probably one of the those 'testing our patients' kind of days.
Each day we plan to film 3 songs - today we managed 1!

The plan was to film 2 songs at the very top of the mountain then pack up and move half way back down the mountain and record the 3rd song. When we reached the top of the mountain it was foggy and rainy and the visibility was very low. So we trundled back down the mountain and set up in the other spot.

All these photos are from this location.

I was amazed that there were no barriers at the edges of these look outs - it was just straight over the cliff! We ran an extention cord along the edge as a marker that the students weren't to go over.

Todays song was "I Sing the Mighty Power of God" - Kyle had a singing solo in it and Tamzin had the cello solo - so that was cool. That is Kyle standing out on his own.

Tamzin doing her thing. Playing these songs is a challenge as they don't have music - makes it interesting for them to keep their bows all going in the same direction!

When the sun came out it was quite hot - who needs a sun umbrella when you have a cello!

After finishing filming this song we packed everything up and headed back up the mountain, only to find that it was still misty and drizzly. Even so they decided to pack everything into the filming site and set it up and film after we had eaten lunch.
During lunch the rain seemed to get heavier and the wind got stronger. So strong in fact that it blew the porta-loo tent over - you guessed it, the porta-loo tipped upside down too - yuk is all I can say!.

So the executive decision was made to pack everything up and head back to camp.

At first I felt myself wondering why this had happened, why God didn't just make the weather clear up for us. But you know, the amount of people those students spoke to and witnessed to while we were waiting their was amazing. God had other plans for us today - who knows why, but we just have to trust that that is where he wanted us to be today.

Tomorrow is Sabbath and is going to be a slower day. There is the option to go to church or to go into the great outdoors. I think our van will be checking out the sites of Kauai.

Well, I am very tired and quite exhusted. My sunburn kept me awake most of the night last night so I am ready to hit the hay - till tomorrow...............
